Wootwoot, part nine. In this part Mark walks. And walks. And walks. Enjoy.

Mark had the apartment situation figured out swiftly. A call to his landlady resolved it within minutes. The deal was closed, there was nothing he could do now to get out of it.
Rain had the brilliant idea of tying the bags of equipment onto her back instead of her having to carry it in her claws. Mark fetched some rope from the hardware store after he was done talking to his landlady.
Silent, Rain stood still while Mark wrapped the rope in a complicated fashion about her body. After a while she said, You are sure you want to do this?
No, Mark admitted, tying a knot. But I know it's what's best. A brief memory of Surgeon Simulator 2013 flickered through his mind, and they both smiled.
Once all the bags were tied down, Mark grabbed a backpack filled with food and water and the two headed out the back door.
Rain took off so quickly into the sky Mark didn't even have time to blink. The presence of her mind faded, but once she looked far enough away to look like a bird up in the sky Mark let her know. They headed out, Rain following Mark's movements.
Looking at his map he had printed off the internet, Mark oriented himself so he was heading to the north-west. Then he began to walk.
At first Mark thought he could walk forever, but soon he found himself getting bored. Sweat poured down his face as the hot summer sun beat down on him. Rain’s mind flickered against his own. Hey, there, Mark, she said cheerfully. Would you like to play a game?
It turns out Rain had been planning an elaborate game as soon as she sensed he was bored. It was a form of truth or dare. One would find a cloud that looked like something. If the other couldn’t find the cloud, they had to tell something the cloud-finder had thought of or do an action they had thought of. The cloud often wasn’t found, so it provided much entertainment for them both.
At one point, Mark had to answer a question that Rain thought of. A feeling of curiosity floated through their connection as Rain asked, How did you find my egg?
Well, Mark paused. I was walking home from the store and I saw something in the gutter. I picked it up and it was your egg. The rest is history.
The next round Mark lost he made sure to fire back a question at her. Do you remember anything from when you were in your egg?
Rain struggled with her memories. I remember...lots of cold. Freezing cold. For a very long time. She stopped as a gust of wind threw her off balance. Then I was picked up...and put some place. Someone grabbed me and dropped me. I knew when you picked me up, like a...a...what’s the word? She sent a sensation at Mark.
Shock, Mark determined after a few seconds of thinking.
Yes, a shock. Rain was filled with a sense of mysterious awe at the memory. You lifted my egg and I awoke. I knew that is was time for me to hatch. I knew you were the one that I would hatch for.
Mark gave her a mental hug. I love you, Rain.
Rain’s echoing peal filtered down through the air.
Yey, walking. And flying. And games. And love. And stuff.

Markiplier is his own person and I am not the writer of the Inheritance Cycle, but Rain and story line belong to me.
